Gadsden is a small, laid-back small city surrounded by gorgeous natural scenery located around an hour’s drive northeast of Birmingham on I-59. Gadsden is the county seat of Etowah County, Alabama, and is located on the banks of the Coosa River in the Appalachian Mountains’ Cumberland Plateau. It’s home to Noccalula Falls Park, which features a stunning 90-foot waterfall, caves, historic sites, and trails for hiking and mountain biking. Gadsden also offers a downtown area that hosts regular community events, including First Fridays, which feature concerts and classic cars.
Housing options in Gadsden include grand private residences built in an eclectic array of architectural styles. These large, beautiful properties have been designed by some of the area’s finest luxury home builders, and many are newer builds.

The city originally arose as a hub of industry in the 19th century, and the downtown area is still home to many historic buildings today. The area around Gadsden features some stunning natural scenery, including the soaring waterfall and rushing waters of Noccalula Falls Park.

Gadsden’s vibrant historic downtown features an eclectic array of unique pubs, stores, and eateries. It’s the site of regular community events, and there’s often live music at many of Gadsden’s pubs and restaurants.
Harp & Clover
is a traditional Irish pub offering gourmet pub grub, cold brews, and live sports. The menu features mouthwatering artisanal burgers and sandwiches alongside Irish classics such as fish and chips, bangers and mash, and shepherd’s pie. Tre Ragazzi’s Italian Café
serves delicious pasta, pizzas, and loaded subs. There’s plenty of variety on the menu — classic Italian offerings are listed alongside inventive new creations. Diners can also opt to create their own pizzas, calzones and pasta sauté. For dessert, Tre Ragazzi’s prepares scrumptious tiramisu, cannolis, gelato and Sicilian-style limoncello mascarpone cake.
Award-winning microbrewery Back Forty Beer Company
is a pioneer of the Deep South’s burgeoning craft beer scene and one of the first businesses to take advantage of Alabama’s repeal of laws restricting the strength of beer brewed in the state to 6% ABV. Back Forty’s Truck Stop Honey Brown Ale, Naked Pale Ale, and other brews have garnered the microbrewery widespread acclaim. Blackstone Pub & Eatery
offers an incredible 150 beers on draft, which can be paired with inventive pizzas, hearty salads, and tasty quesadillas. Blackstone also hosts live music six nights a week.
Things to Do
Noccalula Falls Park
spans 250 acres and features a dramatic 90-foot waterfall. The 1.7-mile Black Creek Trail runs alongside the rushing waters of Black Creek and through the gorgeous scenery of Black Creek Gorge. The main trail and five miles of connected single-track trails offer hikers, walkers, and mountain bikers access to a captivating landscape of hidden caves and pristine forest. An authentic miniature C.P. Huntington Train offers scenic rides through the park, providing easy access to the beautiful botanical gardens, a petting zoo with goats and llamas, and a mini-golf course that has the picturesque Noccalula Falls as its backdrop. Fly fishing is permitted on the creek, and there are also campgrounds for overnight stays.
Classic cars cruise through downtown Gadsden each month for the popular First Friday
event, which also features multiple live music performances and food vendors. In August, the World’s Longest Yard Sale
features thousands of vendors who span across an area of 690 miles. Noccalula Falls Park serves as the endpoint for this enormous yard sale, which runs the Lookout Mountain Parkway and continues through six states to Addison, Missouri in the north.
